COLOUR SHOW NEWS
Friday 6th March and Saturday 7th March 2015.
It was Hailsham Photographic Society’s annual Colour Show this weekend which, as in previous years, was extremely well attended. The show was opened by Chairman Ray Beckwith, who gave a very warm welcome to the audience, and special guest, the Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Jo Bentley. There were 20 AV’s to show, including humorous cartoons, gardens, landscapes, wildlife, foreign parts and local beauty spots, each one introduced by Ray, with several entered into a competition for best AV, and best sound track.
The Charity being supported this year was “Iasis Medical”. Since 1999 they have provided medical and emergency assistance to people who are marginalised either as a result of conflict, poverty or the remoteness of their homes, giving aid worldwide. Dr Colin Tourle, who is a member of the Photographic Society and co-founder of Iasis, gave a presentation just before the interval to relate some of the aspects of the charity. Dr Colin was extremely pleased to accept, on the charity’s behalf, a cheque for £1000.00 from the club presented by the Mayor. Together with the donations collected at all three shows, the total amount raised was nearly £1700.00. Dr Colin said that it would pay for two or three Syrian refugee trips and was overwhelmed when several people approached him to offer to help raise further funds for the charity.
The prize raffles were drawn during the refreshment intervals and visitors had the chance to view the prints on exhibition submitted by the members. At the end of the evening the results of the competition was given with Cllr Jo Bentley presenting the prizes.
The winner of the best soundtrack went to John Watson for Elgar Serenade Lyrique (Melodie) for his AV Northunberland. Then the results of the overall AV Competition were announced.
In third place was The Streets Of London by Ray Beckwith with the track by Ralph McTell. In second place was Great Blasket Island by Jean Mills to the music Farewell To Connaught Cooley by The Ash Plant and narrated by Dee McNab. The winner was Hellingly Hospital by Ray Beckwith to the haunting music Metaphysik by Kevin MacLeod and had stunning photography of the derelict building before its demolition.
At the end of Friday nights show, Cllr Jo Bentley said it would be the last time she could attend as Mayor but hoped to return again next year because she really enjoys the show as it gets better each year.
Ray closed the evening with thanks to all who attended, including members who had helped behind the scenes in setting up the show.
