THE CHAIRMAN'S CUP
Harold Thomas Memorial Trophy Freda Head writes about the Chairman’s Cup: Harold Thomas was a keen amateur photographer who joined our Society soon after he came to live at Cross in Hand on his retirement in the late 60s. Formerly a bank manager, he took an interest in the finances of the Society but could not be prevailed upon to act as its treasurer! In 1970 however, he became Programme Secretary and it was during that year that we became aware of his skill in composing short stories, illustrating them with his cine camera. His grandchildren frequently formed the cast and on December 10, 1970, for example, he entertained us with a program called ‘Le Fi Family Fun’! Harold was a chairman from 1972-1974. It was Harold who presented the Chairman’s Cup to be awarded to any non-office holding member who in the Chairman's opinion had given outstanding service to the club during the preceding year. His untimely death in 1974 came as quite a shock to us all and some of us still remember with appreciation his quiet humour, his photographic expertise and his warm friendliness. |
